An hour drive from Port Blair to reach Wandoor and a 40 minutes boat ride takes you to the no mans land of Jolly Bouy Island. This is the most beautiful island ion the marine national park. Away from the hustle of crowded cities, this island is sure to give a divine feel to the tourists. One can explore the under water marine life through snorkeling and glass bottom boats here.

JOLLYBUOY AND RED SKIN ISLAND

Jolly Bouy and Red Skin Islands are the part of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

The trip to these Islands starts from Wandoor jetty which is around 30 Kms from Port Blair. Each of these islands are open for tourists for six months in a year to allow natural growth of corals and marine life. Jollybouy island is preferred by more tourists compared to Red Skin. While you wait for your boat in wandoor jetty you may also visit the marine interpretation centre situated at the jetty premises.

 

How to reach ?

 

The ferries to Jollybouy leaves in the morning from Wandoor jetty. Wandoor is connected by road from Port Blair and is 30 Kms away. The road drive takes approximately an hour to reach Wandoor.

 

Timings

 

The first boat to Jollybouy leaves at 0800 Hrs and the last boat leaves at around 1000 Hrs. A forest permit is issued one day in advance from the tourism office in Port Blair, tickets for boats can also be purchased from there. To protect the marine life and restrict the foorfall of tourists, only limited permits are issued per day.

Apart from Jolly Bouy tourists can also visit the nearby Wandoor beach.

 

What to do ?

 

The main treasure in Jollybouy is at the sea bed. The reefs are full of diverse marine life. One must do either snorkeling or take a glass bottom ride to explore the rich and colourful corals under water.

 

What to eat ?

 

Jollybouy is a strict no plastic zone. Any kind of food items packed in plastic are not permitted. There are no eateries in the island. Hence it is advised to finish your breakfast before you go there and do your lunch once you come back. Snacks packed in paper bags are permitted. Milton water bottles are available for rent at the counter for a refundable security deposit of Rs.500. Plastic water bottles are not allowed.

 

What you should not miss.

 

Do not miss the extra paid glass bottom trip that is conducted in Jollybouy. The complimentary trip is too short and is just a trailer of the movie. It is recommended to take a long ride in the boat or do snorkeling to explore the marine life.
